The Scorpio Races
It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

I give this book 4/5 stars

I love the capaill uisce in the book. It gave me a new meaning to water horses! They are blood-thirsty, meat eating, vicious horses that have a calling to the water.

The chapters in the book go back and forth between Puck Connelly and Sean Kendrick. I don’t mind that it went back and forth between the 2 characters. I liked knowing what was going on with both of them.

The story was mostly about the time up until the races, with the actual races having a small part. I think that there could have been more to the races, but I wouldn’t want to lose anything before then. Scorpio Races tell about the trials and whatnot on the small island of Thisby. It is a place where everybody knows everybody (I’ve lived in a small town like that before.). Kate (aka Puck) is the first female to enter the Scorpio Race, as well as the first to use a regular horse. She has her reasons as to wanting to win. She learns that you have to stand up for what you believe and not to let others discourage you. On the other part of the story where Sean in concearned. He has his own reasons as he wants to win the race. The story is well told and very descriptive. I am one the likes to know all the details!
