Cornerstone (The Cornerstone Series, #1)

Nalena Maxwell has been branded ‘The Waste’ at her new school, due to her mom’s obsessive paper hoarding. Nalena desperately wants something to change in her life, but when she receives a sign (and it’s the wrong dang one) inviting her into a mysterious, ancient community, too much changes.  What she knew of her family, what she thought of her life and what she believed about her future, is no longer applicable.  Seventeen years worth of family skeletons come crashing into Nalena’s life and it is the boy…the one that smiles at her like he wants to hear everything she’ll ever say…that already knows her powerful secrets.  But it is only Nalena that can choose between protecting the life that is already crumbling beneath her feet and the one that might sacrifice everything she could ever have.

My Review

I didn’t look to see what this book was about. I read it as part of my UtopYA Challenge. Was I glad that I did get a chance to read Cornerstone! I can’t this was published in 2011 and I just now read it! When I first started the book, I kept wondering what it was about. You learn about Nali and how she came of her unfortunate nickname. Nalena knows what it’s like to be bullied, she’s spent part of her life being nicknamed “The Waste”. Cornerstone kept me interested from beginning to end, and left me wanting more! The first thing I did after finishing was look up the sequel on Goodreads, then Amazon!

Teens always come to a point in their life where they have a big decision(s) to make as far as who they want to be. Nali’s is important, not only for her, but for many many others as well. You get to follow her on her journey to her decision.

Then there is Garrett. I would LOVE to be able to stare into his blue eyes. KWIM?! Dark hair and blue eyes…..yummy! I would have taken him home if I had the chance 😀
